Worked with Director Erik Shirai on this meditative documentary about the workers of the 144-year-old Tedorigawa brewery in northern Japan who painstakingly follow the ancient traditional methods of Saké making. Unlike many documentaries which can be filled with visually boring elements like talking heads and "Ken Burns" treatments of archival photos, it was extremely important to Erik for the film to have an engaging visual style that was unique and also served to capture and convey the contemplative beauty of the Tedorigawa brewery and workers.
We took great pains to build a visual style that was bold and didn't need to be anchored in realism, but also maintained a subtlety integrated with the images rather than being applied "on top".
